What exactly is the transition movement
A Transition Initiative which could be a town, village, university or
island etc, is a community-led response to the pressures of climate
change, fossil fuel depletion, pollution resulting from their use and increasingly, economic contraction.
There are literally thousands of initiatives around the world starting their
journey to answer this crucial question:
|
"for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to
regenerate itself and thrive, how do we significantly rebuild resilience
(to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil and economic contraction) and
sufficiently reduce carbon emissions
(to mitigate the effects of Climate
Change)?" |
Transition is already a social experiment on a
world wide scale.
We are convinced that:
-
if we wait for the governments, it'll be too little, too late
-
if we act as individuals, it'll be too little
-
but if we act as communities, it might just be enough
and may just be in time.
This site, just like the transition model, is brought to you by people
who are actively on their ‘transition
mission’ in a community.
People who are
learning by doing - and learning all the time.
People who understand
that we can't sit back and wait for someone else to do the work. People
like you, perhaps...(from www.transitionnetwork.org)
